QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERTISE, EXPERIENCE & PROMISE

  • I am a native speaker of English and was always in the top level of English at school.
  • I hold a PHD in Sociology/Anthropology (UNSW), with specializations in Southeast Asia, health issues, development, and gender/sex.
  • I have an extensive track record and proven ability in editing.
  • I have undertaken extensive editing of papers for medical staff at Taipei Veteran's General Hospital, as well as the editing of numerous other papers in the various physical and social sciences and in the Humanities and Arts. All of these papers were by professionals in their field and for publication in specialized academic journals.

I have also edited several books, dissertations and project papers across a range of fields, including advanced physics, fire-detection apparatuses, the physiology of medical interventions, alternative medicine, nursing, literature, history, cooking, solar energy, international politics, education, history, medicine, sexuality, ESL/EFL, art/music, and autobiographies.

All of these manuscripts have been published.

Let me stress that, when I edit, I undertake more than the technical aspects. I am sufficiently cognizant of a range of technical issues to not only address grammatical matters, but also to follow and question the logic (and often contradictions, appropriateness or clarity of terminology) of any paper. In brief, I do not merely edit, but I also mentor, as appropriate.

  • I have had extensive involvement in editing for NESB writers and in teaching NESB and foreign students.

Many of the authors for whom I have edited did not have English as their first language. These include authors from Germany, Singapore, the Philippines, the Maldives, Indonesia, and Taiwan.

  • I always do my best for the writer; I take the writer's point of view, taking care to maintain his/her meaning, and deliver my responses on time and in a courteous manner. As a professional, I am accustomed to and whole-heartedly adhere to matters of confidentiality.
  • I pay full attention to detail. I am fully aware of how, for example, a misplaced comma or the use of a definitive article may change the whole meaning of a statement.
  • I have written several of my own books, and edited others, as long documents, and I am the author of over 30 academic papers and several non-academic books.
  • I have been editor of several peer-reviewed international Journals, such a Pilipinas and Asian Studies Review.

As evidenced by these publications, I have had to ensure consistency in the many facets of editing such as spelling, tense, fonts and headings.

  • As an academic of some 25 years I am fully cognizant of the Australian university system, as well those of some other countries.
  • My rates vary depending on the author's situation, length of work and the urgency of the work, starting at $25AUD per hour.

It is difficult to provide a forward quote for any job, as requirements vary across a range of issues and difficulty of the work. However, I offer a discount for students, and a preliminary edit of pages to ensure the author and I can work together. The needs, level of editing or proof-reading, mode of payment, and delivery schedule and format are determined by negotiation.

A list of my own publications, works I have edited, and testimonials are available on request.
